第一次较认真的研读帖撒罗尼迦前书，是在一九六六年；当时笔者从英国伦敦圣经学院毕业后刚好一年，应邀在香港基督徒学生福音团契属下的中学生基督徒团契所举办的领袖训练营（七月廿六至三十日于南丫岛举行）负责研经讲道，所讲的就是帖撒罗尼迦前书。四年后，在美国福乐神学院进修期间，选读了由新约教授夏理逊博士1讲授的“帖撒罗尼迦前后书”一科。在“中神”专职任教期间，曾于七九年冬季学期（一至三月）教授“帖撒罗尼迦前后书原文释经”一科，同时在延伸课程讲解这两卷书。过去两年，在撰写此注释的过程中，对帖撒罗尼迦前书作了比以前任何时期都较详细的研究，亦对这卷书有了进一步的认识。 帖撒罗尼迦后书跟前书的关系非常密切，这两卷书的注释通常都以一本“帖撒罗尼迦前后书注释”的形式面世。2笔者原来的计划也是这样，不过单是前书注释的数据使已足够成书，若加上后书的注释会使整本书变得太长，并且要多等至少一年才可以付梓，因此天道书楼欣然同意先出版“帖撒罗尼迦前书注释”，日后再出版后书的注释。这较不寻常的安排对笔者是很大的鼓励，为此要特别向天道书楼出版部经理高明发先生致谢，也顺便谢谢高先生以编者身份在文字润色上所给予笔者的帮助。 笔者在“中神”校本部教授“帖撒罗尼迦前后书原文释经”一科时，修读的同学只有三名！这三位校友已分别成为本院延伸部的讲师、教会牧师和大学讲师，3然而笔者未能以“重质不重量”一语自慰，除非笔者有理由相信，他们今天的成就跟他们曾修读该科的事实──活现于帖撒罗尼迦前后书的保罗，确是一位极优秀的牧者和教师──多少有点关系。这可以部份解释，为甚么笔者最近接受天道书楼一位编辑同工的访问时，曾就自己近年间撰写注释书的工作表达以下的心愿：“希望透过文字在某程度上继续﹝我﹞的‘教学’，并且把对象从一所神学院的学生扩阔至较大的范围。”与此同时，笔者也“希望透过文字使那些繁忙的教牧同工、神学生或有心追求真理的信徒能得着帮助。”4 祈盼此书蒙神恩待，以致能达到上述的双重目的。 冯荫坤谨志 一九八八年十二月十二日 香港 中国神学研究院
