本书是在总会出版部的指导下编辑的，以回应诸多的要求，用一本更完整的书来代替多年前出版的《书报员手册》。作者后来又写了其他有关文字布道工作的材料。我们尽量收录在本书中。本书还摘录了证言和其它著作的相关内容。所摘录《书报员手册》的文字未在其他地方出现过。小标题是编者根据上下文加上的，便于读者迅速找到所需要的信息。虽然原来的手册一直是文字布道士的一个大福气，但《文字布道士》既有增加和改进的内容，必定能更好地服务于那些献身此崇高职分的人。CEv 4.1

This volume has been prepared under the direction of the General Conference Publishing Department, in response to numerous requests for something more complete to take the place of?Manual for Canvassers, which was prepared many years ago. Later other matter on the colporteur work was written by the same author, and this we have endeavored to incorporate in this edition. Credits have been given to the bound volumes of the?Testimonies?and other writings as far as the matter has been located. The portions credited to?Manual for Canvassers?have not been located elsewhere. The side headings have been added by the compilers, as an aid in quickly locating desired information, an effort having been made to base them on the text. While the old manual has been a great blessing to the work of the evangelistic colporteur, undoubtedly, with the added matter and improvements offered in?The Colporteur Evangelist, this little volume will prove of even greater service to those who are devoting their lives to this high calling.?{CEv 4.1}—The Publishers[1]
