    [niv] Now about food sacrificed to idols: We know that we all possess knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
    [asv] Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but love edifieth.
    [jnd] But concerning things sacrificed to idols, we know, (for we all have knowledge: knowledge puffs up, but love edifies.
    [kjv] Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
    [nwb] Now as concerning things offered to idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.
    [rsv] Now concerning food offered to idols: we know that "all of us possess knowledge." "Knowledge" puffs up, but love builds up.
    [web] . Now concerning things sacrificed to idols: We know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.
    [ylt] And concerning the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that we all have knowledge: knowledge puffeth up, but love buildeth up;
    [bbe] Now about things offered to images: we all seem to ourselves to have knowledge. Knowledge gives pride, but love gives true strength.
    [niv] The man who thinks he knows something does not yet know as he ought to know.
    [asv] If any man thinketh that he knoweth anything, he knoweth not yet as he ought to know;
    [jnd] If any one think he knows anything, he knows nothing yet as he ought to know .
    [kjv] And if any man think that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
    [nwb] And if any man thinketh that he knoweth any thing, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.
    [rsv] If any one imagines that he knows something, he does not yet know as he ought to know.
    [web] But if anyone thinks that he knows anything, he doesn't yet know as he ought to know.
    [ylt] and if any one doth think to know anything, he hath not yet known anything according as it behoveth to know;
    [bbe] If anyone seems to himself to have knowledge, so far he has not the right sort of knowledge about anything;
    [niv] But the man who loves God is known by God.
    [asv] but if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.
    [jnd] But if any one love God, *he* is known of him):
    [kjv] But if any man love God, the same is known of him.
    [nwb] But if any man loveth God, the same is known by him.
    [rsv] But if one loves God, one is known by him.
    [web] But if anyone loves God, the same is known by him.
    [ylt] and if any one doth love God, this one hath been known by Him.
    [bbe] But if anyone has love for God, God has knowledge of him.
    [niv] So then, about eating food sacrificed to idols: We know that an idol is nothing at all in the world and that there is no God but one.
    [asv] Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no God but one.
    [jnd] -- concerning then the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol nothing in world, and that there no other God save one.
    [kjv] As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.
    [nwb] Therefore as concerning the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice to idols, we know that an idol nothing in the world, and that no other God but one.
    [rsv] Hence, as to the eating of food offered to idols, we know that "an idol has no real existence," and that "there is no God but one."
    [web] Therefore concerning the eating of things sacrificed to idols, we know that no idol is anything in the world, and that there is no other God but one.
    [ylt] Concerning the eating then of the things sacrificed to idols, we have known that an idol nothing in the world, and that there is no other God except one;
    [bbe] So, then, as to the question of taking food offered to images, we are certain that an image is nothing in the world, and that there is no God but one.
    [niv] For even if there are so-called gods, whether in heaven or on earth (as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords"),
    [asv] For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth; as there are gods many, and lords many;
    [jnd] For and if indeed there are called gods, whether in heaven or on earth, (as there are gods many, and lords many,)
    [kjv] For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)
    [nwb] For though there are that are called gods, whether in heaven or upon earth, (as there are gods many, and lords many)
    [rsv] For although there may be so-called gods in heaven or on earth--as indeed there are many "gods" and many "lords" --
    [web] For though there are things that are called "gods," whether in the heavens or on earth; as there are many "gods" and many "lords;"
    [ylt] for even if there are those called gods, whether in heaven, whether upon earth -- as there are gods many and lords many --
    [bbe] For though there are those who have the name of gods, in heaven or on earth, as there are a number of gods and a number of lords,
    [niv] yet for us there is but one God, the Father, from whom all things came and for whom we live; and there is but one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things came and through whom we live.
    [asv] yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we unto him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.
    [jnd] yet to us one God, the Father, of whom all things, and *we* for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, by whom all things, and *we* by him.
    [kjv] But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.
    [nwb] Yet to us one God, the Father, from whom all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom all things, and we by him.
    [rsv] yet for us there is one God, the Father, from whom are all things and for whom we exist, and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things and through whom we exist.
    [web] yet to us there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we to him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we through him.
    [ylt] yet to us one God, the Father, of whom the all things, and we to Him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom the all things, and we through Him;
    [bbe] There is for us only one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we are for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we have our being through him.
    [niv] But not everyone knows this. Some people are still so accustomed to idols that when they eat such food they think of it as having been sacrificed to an idol, and since their conscience is weak, it is defiled.
    [asv] Howbeit there is not in all men that knowledge: but some, being used until now to the idol, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
    [jnd] But knowledge not in all: but some, with conscience of the idol, until now eat as of a thing sacrificed to idols; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
    [kjv] Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.
    [nwb] But not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol to this hour eat as a thing offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
    [rsv] However, not all possess this knowledge. But some, through being hitherto accustomed to idols, eat food as really offered to an idol; and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
    [web] However, that knowledge isn't in all men. But some, being used until now to the idol, eat as of a thing sacrificed to an idol, and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
    [ylt] but not in all men the knowledge, and certain with conscience of the idol, till now, as a thing sacrificed to an idol do eat , and their conscience, being weak, is defiled.
    [bbe] Still, all men have not that knowledge: but some, being used till now to the image, are conscious that they are taking food which has been offered to the image; and because they are not strong in the faith, their minds are troubled.
    [niv] But food does not bring us near to God; we are no worse if we do not eat, and no better if we do.
    [asv] But food will not commend us to God: neither, if we eat not, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.
    [jnd] But meat does not commend us to God; neither if we should not eat do we come short; nor if we should eat have we an advantage.
    [kjv] But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.
    [nwb] But food commendeth us not to God: for neither if we eat, are we the better; neither if we eat not, are we the worse.
    [rsv] Food will not commend us to God. We are no worse off if we do not eat, and no better off if we do.
    [web] But food will not commend us to God. For neither, if we don't eat, are we the worse; nor, if we eat, are we the better.
    [ylt] But victuals do not commend us to God, for neither if we may eat are we in advance; nor if we may not eat, are we behind;
    [bbe] But God's approval of us is not based on the food we take: if we do not take it we are no worse for it; and if we take it we are no better.
    [niv] Be careful, however, that the exercise of your freedom does not become a stumbling block to the weak.
    [asv] But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to the weak.
    [jnd] But see lest anywise this your right itself be a stumbling-block to the weak.
    [kjv] But take heed lest by any means this liberty of your's become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.
    [nwb] But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours should become a stumbling-block to them that are weak.
    [rsv] Only take care lest this liberty of yours somehow become a stumbling block to the weak.
    [web] But be careful that by any means this liberty of yours doesn't become a stumbling block to the weak.
    [ylt] but see, lest this privilege of yours may become a stumbling-block to the infirm,
    [bbe] But take care that this power of yours does not give cause for trouble to the feeble.
    [niv] For if anyone with a weak conscience sees you who have this knowledge eating in an idol's temple, won't he be emboldened to eat what has been sacrificed to idols?
    [asv] For if a man see thee who hast knowledge sitting at meat in an idol's temple, will not his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
    [jnd] For if any one see thee, who hast knowledge, sitting at table in an idol-house, shall not his conscience, he being weak, be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to the idol?
    [kjv] For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
    [nwb] For if any man shall see thee, who hast knowledge, sit eating in the idol's temple, will not the conscience of him who is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;
    [rsv] For if any one sees you, a man of knowledge, at table in an idol's temple, might he not be encouraged, if his conscience is weak, to eat food offered to idols?
    [web] For if a man sees you who have knowledge sitting in an idol's temple, won't his conscience, if he is weak, be emboldened to eat things sacrificed to idols?
    [ylt] for if any one may see thee that hast knowledge in an idol's temple reclining at meat -- shall not his conscience -- he being infirm -- be emboldened to eat the things sacrificed to idols,
    [bbe] For if a man sees you, who have knowledge, taking food as a guest in the house of an image, will it not give him, if he is feeble, the idea that he may take food offered to images?
    [niv] So this weak brother, for whom Christ died, is destroyed by your knowledge.
    [asv] For through thy knowledge he that is weak perisheth, the brother for whose sake Christ died.
    [jnd] and the weak , the brother for whose sake Christ died, will perish through thy knowledge.
    [kjv] And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
    [nwb] And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?
    [rsv] And so by your knowledge this weak man is destroyed, the brother for whom Christ died.
    [web] And through your knowledge, he who is weak perishes, the brother for whose sake Christ died.
    [ylt] and the brother who is infirm shall perish by thy knowledge, because of whom Christ died?
    [bbe] And so, through your knowledge, you are the cause of destruction to your brother, for whom Christ underwent death.
    [niv] When you sin against your brothers in this way and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.
    [asv] And thus, sinning against the brethren, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, ye sin against Christ.
    [jnd] Now, thus sinning against the brethren, and wounding their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
    [kjv] But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
    [nwb] But when ye thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.
    [rsv] Thus, sinning against your brethren and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
    [web] Thus, sinning against the brothers, and wounding their conscience when it is weak, you sin against Christ.
    [ylt] and thus sinning in regard to the brethren, and smiting their weak conscience -- in regard to Christ ye sin;
    [bbe] And in this way, doing evil to the brothers, and causing trouble to those whose faith is feeble, you are sinning against Christ.
    [niv] Therefore, if what I eat causes my brother to fall into sin, I will never eat meat again, so that I will not cause him to fall.
    [asv] Wherefore, if meat causeth my brother to stumble, I will eat no flesh for evermore, that I cause not my brother to stumble.
    [jnd] Wherefore if meat be a fall-trap to my brother, I will eat no flesh for ever, that I may not be a fall-trap to my brother.
    [kjv] Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.
    [nwb] Wherefore, if food maketh my brother to fall into sin, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to fall into sin.
    [rsv] Therefore, if food is a cause of my brother's falling, I will never eat meat, lest I cause my brother to fall.
    [web] Therefore, if food causes my brother to stumble, I will eat no meat forevermore, that I don't cause my brother to stumble.
    [ylt] wherefore, if victuals cause my brother to stumble, I may eat no flesh -- to the age -- that my brother I may not cause to stumble.
    [bbe] For this reason, if food is a cause of trouble to my brother, I will give up taking meat for ever, so that I may not be a cause of trouble to my brother..
