    [niv] So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God.
    [asv] Let a man so account of us, as of ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
    [jnd] Let a man so account of us as servants of Christ, and stewards of mysteries of God.
    [kjv] Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
    [nwb] Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.
    [rsv] This is how one should regard us, as servants of Christ and stewards of the mysteries of God.
    [web] . So let a man think of us as Christ's servants, and stewards of God's mysteries.
    [ylt] Let a man so reckon us as officers of Christ, and stewards of the secrets of God,
    [bbe] Let us be judged as servants of Christ, and as those who are responsible for the secret things of God.
    [niv] Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful.
    [asv] Here, moreover, it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
    [jnd] Here, further, it is sought in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
    [kjv] Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.
    [nwb] Moreover, it is required in stewards that a man be found faithful.
    [rsv] Moreover it is required of stewards that they be found trustworthy.
    [web] Here, moreover, it is required of stewards, that they be found faithful.
    [ylt] and as to the rest, it is required in the stewards that one may be found faithful,
    [bbe] And it is right for such servants to be safe persons.
    [niv] I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself.
    [asv] But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
    [jnd] But for me it is the very smallest matter that I be examined of you or of man's day. Nor do I even examine myself.
    [kjv] But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged of you, or of man's judgment: yea, I judge not mine own self.
    [nwb] But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by man's judgment: yes, I judge not my own self.
    [rsv] But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you or by any human court. I do not even judge myself.
    [web] But with me it is a very small thing that I should be judged by you, or by man's judgment. Yes, I don't judge my own self.
    [ylt] and to me it is for a very little thing that by you I may be judged, or by man's day, but not even myself do I judge,
    [bbe] But it is a small thing to me that I am judged by you or by man's judging; I am not even a judge of myself.
    [niv] My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me.
    [asv] For I know nothing against myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
    [jnd] For I am conscious of nothing in myself; but I am not justified by this: but he that examines me is the Lord.
    [kjv] For I know nothing by myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
    [nwb] For I know nothing against myself; yet am I not hereby justified: but he that judgeth me is the Lord.
    [rsv] I am not aware of anything against myself, but I am not thereby acquitted. It is the Lord who judges me.
    [web] For I know nothing against myself. Yet I am not justified by this, but he who judges me is the Lord.
    [ylt] for of nothing to myself have I been conscious, but not in this have I been declared right -- and he who is discerning me is the Lord:
    [bbe] For I am not conscious of any wrong in myself; but this does not make me clear, for it is the Lord who is my judge.
    [niv] Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.
    [asv] Wherefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and make manifest the counsels of the hearts; and then shall each man have his praise from God.
    [jnd] So that do not judge anything before time, until the Lord shall come, who shall also both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and shall make manifest the counsels of hearts; and then shall each have praise from God.
    [kjv] Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord come, who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise of God.
    [nwb] Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord shall come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts: and then shall every man have praise from God.
    [rsv] Therefore do not pronounce judgment before the time, before the Lord comes, who will bring to light the things now hidden in darkness and will disclose the purposes of the heart. Then every man will receive his commendation from God.
    [web] Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and reveal the counsels of the hearts. Then each man will get his praise from God.
    [ylt] so, then, nothing before the time judge ye, till the Lord may come, who will both bring to light the hidden things of the darkness, and will manifest the counsels of the hearts, and then the praise shall come to each from God.
    [bbe] For this reason let there be no judging before the time, till the Lord comes, who will make clear the secret things of the dark, and the designs of the heart; and then will every man have his praise from God.
    [niv] Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, "Do not go beyond what is written." Then you will not take pride in one man over against another.
    [asv] Now these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes; that in us ye might learn not to go beyond the things which are written; that no one of you be puffed up for the one against the other.
    [jnd] Now these things, brethren, I have transferred, in their application, to myself and Apollos, for your sakes, that ye may learn in us the not above what is written, that ye may not be puffed up one for one against another.
    [kjv] And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself and to Apollos for your sakes; that ye might learn in us not to think of men above that which is written, that no one of you be puffed up for one against another.
    [nwb] And these things, brethren, I have in a figure transferred to myself, and Apollos, for your sakes; that ye may learn in us not to think above that which is written, that no one of you on account of one, may be puffed up against another.
    [rsv] I have applied all this to myself and Apol'los for your benefit, brethren, that you may learn by us not to go beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up in favor of one against another.
    [web] Now these things, brothers, I have in a figure transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that in us you might learn not to think beyond the things which are written, that none of you be puffed up against one another.
    [ylt] And these things, brethren, I did transfer to myself and to Apollos because of you, that in us ye may learn not to think above that which hath been written, that ye may not be puffed up one for one against the other,
    [bbe] My brothers, it is because of you that I have taken Apollos and myself as examples of these things, so that in us you might see that it is not wise to go farther than what is in the holy Writings, so that no one of you may be lifted up against his brother.
    [niv] For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?
    [asv] For who maketh thee to differ? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? but if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory as if thou hadst not received it?
    [jnd] For who makes thee to differ? and what hast thou which thou hast not received? but if also thou hast received, why boastest thou as not receiving?
    [kjv] For who maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it?
    [nwb] For who maketh thee to differ ? and what hast thou that thou didst not receive? now if thou didst receive , why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received ?
    [rsv] For who sees anything different in you? What have you that you did not receive? If then you received it, why do you boast as if it were not a gift?
    [web] For who makes you different? And what do you have that you didn't receive? But if you did receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?
    [ylt] for who doth make thee to differ? and what hast thou, that thou didst not receive? and if thou didst also receive, why dost thou glory as not having received?
    [bbe] For who made you better than your brother? or what have you that has not been given to you? but if it has been given to you, what cause have you for pride, as if it had not been given to you?
    [niv] Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! You have become kings--and that without us! How I wish that you really had become kings so that we might be kings with you!
    [asv] Already are ye filled, already ye are become rich, ye have come to reign without us: yea and I would that ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
    [jnd] Already ye are filled; already ye have been enriched; ye have reigned without us; and I would that ye reigned, that *we* also might reign with you.
    [kjv] Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I would to God ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
    [nwb] Now ye are full, now ye are rich, ye have reigned as kings without us: and I wish ye did reign, that we also might reign with you.
    [rsv] Already you are filled! Already you have become rich! Without us you have become kings! And would that you did reign, so that we might share the rule with you!
    [web] You are already filled. You have already become rich. You have come to reign without us. Yes, and I wish that you did reign, that we also might reign with you.
    [ylt] Already ye are having been filled, already ye were rich, apart from us ye did reign, and I would also ye did reign, that we also with you may reign together,
    [bbe] For even now you are full, even now you have wealth, you have been made kings without us: truly, I would be glad if you were kings, so that we might be kings with you.
    [niv] For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men.
    [asv] For, I think, God hath set forth us the apostles last of all, as men doomed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, both to angels and men.
    [jnd] For I think that God has set us the apostles for the last, as appointed to death. For we have become a spectacle to the world, both to angels and men.
    [kjv] For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle unto the world, and to angels, and to men.
    [nwb] For I think that God hath set forth us the apostles last, as it were appointed to death: for we are made a spectacle to the world, and to angels, and to men.
    [rsv] For I think that God has exhibited us apostles as last of all, like men sentenced to death; because we have become a spectacle to the world, to angels and to men.
    [web] For, I think that God has displayed us, the apostles, last of all, like men sentenced to death. For we are made a spectacle to the world, both to angels and men.
    [ylt] for I think that God did set forth us the apostles last -- as appointed to death, because a spectacle we became to the world, and messengers, and men;
    [bbe] For it seems to me that God has put us the Apostles last of all, as men whose fate is death: for we are put on view to the world, and to angels, and to men.
    [niv] We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored!
    [asv] We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye have glory, but we have dishonor.
    [jnd] *We* fools for Christ's sake, but *ye* prudent in Christ: *we* weak, but *ye* strong: *ye* glorious, but *we* in dishonour.
    [kjv] We are fools for Christ's sake, but ye are wise in Christ; we are weak, but ye are strong; ye are honourable, but we are despised.
    [nwb] We fools for Christ's sake, but ye wise in Christ; we weak, but ye strong; ye honorable, but we despised.
    [rsv] We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You are held in honor, but we in disrepute.
    [web] We are fools for Christ's sake, but you are wise in Christ. We are weak, but you are strong. You have honor, but we have dishonor.
    [ylt] we fools because of Christ, and ye wise in Christ; we ailing, and ye strong; ye glorious, and we dishonoured;
    [bbe] We are made to seem foolish for Christ, but you are wise in Christ; we are feeble, but you are strong; you have glory, but we have shame.
    [niv] To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless.
    [asv] Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place;
    [jnd] To the present hour we both hunger and thirst, and are in nakedness, and buffeted, and wander without a home,
    [kjv] Even unto this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwellingplace;
    [nwb] Even to this present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and have no certain dwelling-place;
    [rsv] To the present hour we hunger and thirst, we are ill-clad and buffeted and homeless,
    [web] Even to this present hour we hunger, thirst, are naked, are beaten, and have no certain dwelling place.
    [ylt] unto the present hour we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and wander about,
    [bbe] Even to this hour we are without food, drink, and clothing, we are given blows and have no certain resting-place;
    [niv] We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it;
    [asv] and we toil, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we endure;
    [jnd] and labour, working with our own hands. Railed at, we bless; persecuted, we suffer ;
    [kjv] And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
    [nwb] And labor, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it;
    [rsv] and we labor, working with our own hands. When reviled, we bless; when persecuted, we endure;
    [web] We toil, working with our own hands. Being reviled, we bless. Being persecuted, we endure.
    [ylt] and labour, working with own hands; being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer;
    [bbe] And with our hands we do the hardest work: when they give us curses we give blessings, when we undergo punishment we take it quietly;
    [niv] when we are slandered, we answer kindly. Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world.
    [asv] being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things, even until now.
    [jnd] insulted, we entreat: we are become as offscouring of the world, refuse of all, until now.
    [kjv] Being defamed, we intreat: we are made as the filth of the world, and are the offscouring of all things unto this day.
    [nwb] Being defamed, we entreat: we are made as the filth of the world, the offscouring of all things to this day.
    [rsv] when slandered, we try to conciliate; we have become, and are now, as the refuse of the world, the offscouring of all things.
    [web] Being defamed, we entreat. We are made as the filth of the world, the dirt wiped off by all, even until now.
    [ylt] being spoken evil of, we entreat; as filth of the world we did become -- of all things an offscouring -- till now.
    [bbe] When evil things are said about us we give gentle answers: we are made as the unclean things of the world, as that for which no one has any use, even till now.
    [niv] I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you, as my dear children.
    [asv] I write not these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.
    [jnd] Not chiding do I write these things to you, but as my beloved children I admonish .
    [kjv] I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn you.
    [nwb] I write not these things to shame you, but as my beloved sons I warn .
    [rsv] I do not write this to make you ashamed, but to admonish you as my beloved children.
    [web] I don't write these things to shame you, but to admonish you as my beloved children.
    [ylt] Not putting you to shame do I write these things, but as my beloved children I do admonish,
    [bbe] I am not saying these things to put you to shame, but so that, as my dear children, you may see what is right.
    [niv] Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel.
    [asv] For though ye have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus I begat you through the gospel.
    [jnd] For if ye should have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus *I* have begotten you through the glad tidings.
    [kjv] For though ye have ten thousand instructers in Christ, yet have ye not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
    [nwb] For though ye have ten thousand instructors in Christ, yet not many fathers: for in Christ Jesus I have begotten you through the gospel.
    [rsv] For though you have countless guides in Christ, you do not have many fathers. For I became your father in Christ Jesus through the gospel.
    [web] For though you have ten thousand tutors in Christ, yet not many fathers. For in Christ Jesus, I became your father through the gospel.
    [ylt] for if a myriad of child-conductors ye may have in Christ, yet not many fathers; for in Christ Jesus, through the good news, I -- I did beget you;
    [bbe] For even if you had ten thousand teachers in Christ, you have not more than one father: for in Christ Jesus I have given birth to you through the good news.
4:16 [cbgb] < | >
    [niv] Therefore I urge you to imitate me.
    [asv] I beseech you therefore, be ye imitators of me.
    [jnd] I entreat you therefore, be my imitators.
    [kjv] Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
    [nwb] Wherefore I beseech you, be ye followers of me.
    [rsv] I urge you, then, be imitators of me.
    [web] I beg you therefore, be imitators of me.
    [ylt] I call upon you, therefore, become ye followers of me;
    [bbe] So my desire is that you take me as your example.
    [niv] For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.
    [asv] For this cause have I sent unto you Timothy, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who shall put you in remembrance of my ways which are in Christ, even as I teach everywhere in every church.
    [jnd] For this reason I have sent to you Timotheus, who is my beloved and faithful child in Lord, who shall put you in mind of my ways they in Christ, according as I teach everywhere in every assembly.
    [kjv] For this cause have I sent unto you Timotheus, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who shall bring you into remembrance of my ways which be in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.
    [nwb] For this cause have I sent to you Timothy, who is my beloved son, and faithful in the Lord, who will bring you into remembrance of my ways which are in Christ, as I teach every where in every church.
    [rsv] Therefore I sent to you Timothy, my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, to remind you of my ways in Christ, as I teach them everywhere in every church.
    [web] Because of this I have sent Timothy to you, who is my beloved and faithful child in the Lord, who will remind you of my ways which are in Christ, even as I teach everywhere in every assembly.
    [ylt] because of this I sent to you Timotheus, who is my child, beloved and faithful in the Lord, who shall remind you of my ways in Christ, according as everywhere in every assembly I teach.
    [bbe] For this cause I have sent Timothy to you, who is my dear and true child in the Lord; he will make clear to you my ways in Christ, even as I am teaching everywhere in every church.
    [niv] Some of you have become arrogant, as if I were not coming to you.
    [asv] Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.
    [jnd] But some have been puffed up, as if I were not coming to you;
    [kjv] Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.
    [nwb] Now some are puffed up, as though I would not come to you.
    [rsv] Some are arrogant, as though I were not coming to you.
    [web] Now some are puffed up, as though I were not coming to you.
    [ylt] And as if I were not coming unto you certain were puffed up;
    [bbe] Now some are full of pride, as if I was not coming to you.
    [niv] But I will come to you very soon, if the Lord is willing, and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have.
    [asv] But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will; and I will know, not the word of them that are puffed up, but the power.
    [jnd] but I will come quickly to you, if the Lord will; and I will know, not the word of those that are puffed up, but the power.
    [kjv] But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them which are puffed up, but the power.
    [nwb] But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord will, and will know, not the speech of them who are puffed up, but the power.
    [rsv] But I will come to you soon, if the Lord wills, and I will find out not the talk of these arrogant people but their power.
    [web] But I will come to you shortly, if the Lord is willing. And I will know, not the word of those who are puffed up, but the power.
    [ylt] but I will come quickly unto you, if the Lord may will, and I will know not the word of those puffed up, but the power;
    [bbe] But I will come to you in a short time, if it is pleasing to the Lord, and I will take note, not of the word of those who are full of pride, but of the power.
    [niv] For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power.
    [asv] For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
    [jnd] For the kingdom of God not in word, but in power.
    [kjv] For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
    [nwb] For the kingdom of God not in word, but in power.
    [rsv] For the kingdom of God does not consist in talk but in power.
    [web] For the kingdom of God is not in word, but in power.
    [ylt] for not in word is the reign of God, but in power?
    [bbe] For the kingdom of God is not in word but in power.
    [niv] What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a whip, or in love and with a gentle spirit?
    [asv] What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
    [jnd] What will ye? that I come to you with a rod; or in love, and a spirit of meekness?
    [kjv] What will ye? shall I come unto you with a rod, or in love, and in the spirit of meekness?
    [nwb] What will ye? shall I come to you with a rod, or in love, and the spirit of meekness?
    [rsv] What do you wish? Shall I come to you with a rod, or with love in a spirit of gentleness?
    [web] What do you want? Will I come to you with a rod, or in love and a spirit of gentleness?
    [ylt] what do ye wish? with a rod shall I come unto you, or in love, with a spirit also of meekness?
    [bbe] What is your desire? is my coming to be with punishment, or is it to be in love and a gentle spirit?
