    [niv] Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.

    [niv] This is why I speak to them in parables: "Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.
    [asv] Therefore speak I to them in parables; because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
    [jnd] For this cause I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear nor understand;
    [kjv] Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
    [nwb] Therefore I speak to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand.
    [rsv] This is why I speak to them in parables, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor do they understand.
    [web] Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they don't see, and hearing, they don't hear, neither do they understand.
    [ylt] `Because of this, in similes do I speak to them, because seeing they do not see, and hearing they do not hear, nor understand,
    [bbe] For this reason I put things into the form of stories; because they see without seeing, and give ear without hearing, and the sense is not clear to them.
    [niv] In them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah: "`You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving.
    [asv] And unto them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith,  By hearing ye shall hear, and shall in no wise understand;  And seeing ye shall see, and shall in no wise perceive:
    [jnd] and in them is filled up the prophecy of Esaias, which says, Hearing ye shall hear and shall not understand, and beholding ye shall behold and not see;
    [kjv] And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Esaias, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
    [nwb] And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, By hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and shall not perceive:
    [rsv] With them indeed is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which says: 'You shall indeed hear but never understand, and you shall indeed see but never perceive.
    [web] In them the prophecy of Isaiah is fulfilled, which says, 'By hearing you will hear, and will in no way understand;Seeing you will see, and will in no way perceive:
    [ylt] and fulfilled on them is the prophecy of Isaiah, that saith, With hearing ye shall hear, and ye shall not understand, and seeing ye shall see, and ye shall not perceive,
    [bbe] And for them the words of Isaiah have come true, Though you give ear, you will not get knowledge; and seeing, you will see, but the sense will not be clear to you:
    [niv] For this people's heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.'
    [asv] For this people's heart is waxed gross,  And their ears are dull of hearing,  And their eyes they have closed;  Lest haply they should perceive with their eyes,  And hear with their ears,  And understand with their heart,  And should turn again,  And I should heal them.
    [jnd] for the heart of this people has grown fat, and they have heard heavily with their ears, and they have closed their eyes as asleep, lest they should see with the eyes, and hear with the ears, and understand with the heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
    [kjv] For this people's heart is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears, and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
    [nwb] For this people's heart is become gross, and ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes they have closed; lest at any time they should see with eyes, and hear with ears, and should understand with heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.
    [rsv] For this people's heart has grown dull, and their ears are heavy of hearing, and their eyes they have closed, lest they should perceive with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and turn for me to heal them.'
    [web] . For this people's heart has grown callous,Their ears are dull of hearing,Their eyes they have closed;Or else perhaps they might perceive with their eyes,Hear with their ears,Understand with their heart,And should turn again;And I would heal them.'
    [ylt] for made gross was the heart of this people, and with the ears they heard heavily, and their eyes they did close, lest they might see with the eyes, and with the ears might hear, and with the heart understand, and turn back, and I might heal them.
    [bbe] For the heart of this people has become fat and their ears are slow in hearing and their eyes are shut; for fear that they might see with their eyes and give hearing with their ears and become wise in their hearts and be turned again to me, so that I might make them well.
    [niv] But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.
    [asv] But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.
    [jnd] But blessed are *your* eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear;
    [kjv] But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
    [nwb] But blessed your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear.
    [rsv] But blessed are your eyes, for they see, and your ears, for they hear.
    [web] . "But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.
    [ylt] `And happy are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear,
    [bbe] But a blessing be on your eyes, because they see; and on your ears, because they are open.
    [niv] For I tell you the truth, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it.
    [asv] For verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which ye see, and saw them not; and to hear the things which ye hear, and heard them not.
    [jnd] for verily I say unto you, that many prophets and righteous have desired to see the things which ye behold and did not see , and to hear the things which ye hear and did not hear .
    [kjv] For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them.
    [nwb] For verily I say to you, That many prophets and righteous have desired to see which ye see, and have not seen ; and to hear which ye hear, and have not heard .
    [rsv] Truly, I say to you, many prophets and righteous men longed to see what you see, and did not see it, and to hear what you hear, and did not hear it.
    [web] For most assuredly I tell you that many prophets and righteous men desired to see the things which you see, and didn't see them; and to hear the things which you hear, and didn't hear them.
    [ylt] for verily I say to you, that many prophets and righteous men did desire to see that which ye look on, and they did not see, and to hear that which ye hear, and they did not hear.
    [bbe] For truly, I say to you that prophets and upright men had a desire to see the things which you see, and saw them not; and to have knowledge of the words which have come to your ears, and they had it not.
    [niv] "Listen then to what the parable of the sower means:
    [asv] Hear then ye the parable of the sower.
    [jnd] *Ye*, therefore, hear the parable of the sower.
    [kjv] Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
    [nwb] Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.
    [rsv] "Hear then the parable of the sower.
    [web] . "Hear, then, the parable of the farmer.
    [ylt] `Ye, therefore, hear ye the simile of the sower:
    [bbe] Give ear, then, to the story of the man who put the seed in the earth.
    [niv] When anyone hears the message about the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what was sown in his heart. This is the seed sown along the path.
    [asv] When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the evil one, and snatcheth away that which hath been sown in his heart. This is he that was sown by the way side.
    [jnd] From every one who hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand , the wicked one comes and catches away what was sown in his heart: this is he that is sown by the wayside.
    [kjv] When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.
    [nwb] When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth not, then cometh the wicked , and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he who received seed by the way side.
    [rsv] When any one hears the word of the kingdom and does not understand it, the evil one comes and snatches away what is sown in his heart; this is what was sown along the path.
    [web] When anyone hears the word of the kingdom, and doesn't understand it, the evil one comes, and snatches away that which has been sown in his heart. This is what was sown by the roadside.
    [ylt] Every one hearing the word of the reign, and not understanding -- the evil one doth come, and doth catch that which hath been sown in his heart; this is that sown by the way.
    [bbe] When the word of the kingdom comes to anyone, and the sense of it is not clear to him, then the Evil One comes, and quickly takes away that which was put in his heart. He is the seed dropped by the wayside.
    [niv] The one who received the seed that fell on rocky places is the man who hears the word and at once receives it with joy.
    [asv] And he that was sown upon the rocky places, this is he that heareth the word, and straightway with joy receiveth it;
    [jnd] But he that is sown on the rocky places -- this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy,
    [kjv] But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;
    [nwb] But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and immediately with joy receiveth it;
    [rsv] As for what was sown on rocky ground, this is he who hears the word and immediately receives it with joy;
    [web] What was sown on the rocky places, this is he who hears the word, and immediately with joy receives it;
    [ylt] `And that sown on the rocky places, this is he who is hearing the word, and immediately with joy is receiving it,
    [bbe] And that which went on the stones, this is he who, hearing the word, straight away takes it with joy;
    [niv] But since he has no root, he lasts only a short time. When trouble or persecution comes because of the word, he quickly falls away.
    [asv] yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while; and when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, straightway he stumbleth.
    [jnd] but has no root in himself, but is for a time only; and when tribulation or persecution happens on account of the word, he is immediately offended.
    [kjv] Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.
    [nwb] Yet he hath not root in himself, but endureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, forthwith he is offended.
    [rsv] yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while, and when tribulation or persecution arises on account of the word, immediately he falls away.
    [web] yet he has no root in himself, but endures for a while. When oppression or persecution arises because of the word, immediately he stumbles.
    [ylt] and he hath not root in himself, but is temporary, and persecution or tribulation having happened because of the word, immediately he is stumbled.
    [bbe] But having no root in himself, he goes on for a time; and when trouble comes or pain, because of the word, he quickly becomes full of doubts.
    [niv] The one who received the seed that fell among the thorns is the man who hears the word, but the worries of this life and the deceitfulness of wealth choke it, making it unfruitful.
    [asv] And he that was sown among the thorns, this is he that heareth the word; and the care of the world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
    [jnd] And he that is sown among the thorns -- this is he who hears the word, and the anxious care of this life, and the deceit of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
    [kjv] He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
    [nwb] He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful.
    [rsv] As for what was sown among thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of the world and the delight in riches choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
    [web] What was sown among the thorns, this is he who hears the word, but the cares of this world and the deceitfulness of riches choke the word, and he becomes unfruitful.
    [ylt] `And that sown toward the thorns, this is he who is hearing the word, and the anxiety of this age, and the deceitfulness of the riches, do choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful.
    [bbe] And that which was dropped among the thorns, this is he who has the word; and the cares of this life, and the deceits of wealth, put a stop to the growth of the word and it gives no fruit.
